I guess I'll post this now, while I am thinking about it. Bowlie is shutting down in a few days. It's kind of a bummer, but life moves on. It's weird, I signed up in August of 2001 because I was looking for tix to the sold out Belle & Sebastian gigs at the Warfield. And I've been hanging around there for seven years. SEVEN YEARS! And that's probably nothing to some people.
Anyways, it's been a nice run. Without getting too in-depth, I've made friends with a lotta cool peeps, peeps I probably have no business even knowing. I even went to Seattle to witness the marriage of two forum members. How cool is that?

I thought about posting a Belle & Sebastian song, as Bowlie rose from the ashes of the Belle & Sebastian Jeepster forum. I'm not feelin' that, tho, so those guys are out. This one dude posted a "Thank You and Goodbye" thread, and it keeps reminding me of this song, Thank You and Goodnight, by The Angels. You can find it on the super cool girl groups comp, Growin' Up Too Fast.
If you are interested in a solid girl groups collection, I highly recommend Growin' Up Too Fast or the seriously awesome (four disc set) One Kiss Can Lead To Another. Seriously, there's not a bad track between either set, unless you talk to Sharon, who hates Marsha Gee's Peanut Duck.

Studio Ghibli fans might recognize the clips in this vid. I opted for lighter subject matter in this one. Quick words about the music; I recently picked up Perfume's Game album (the girls pictured above are Perfume), and Puppy Love is my favorite song on there. Produced by Nakata Yasutaka, of (the awesome group) Capsule, Perfume's music has many happys. Give it a whirl.
Okay, am I trippin' or does the chorus in this song sound exactly like ELO? This is from Cut Copy's newest album, In Ghost Colours, which is a really catchy pop/electronica affair. My cousin peeped me to them. They sorta remind me of a few different bands, but I thought I'd mention the ELO thing just because it was, for some reason, a complete surprise. Man, I don't even know how I landed on the page, but I have just read the most inane post I've read in a while. According to this guy, Katy Perry is pretty much the ultimate evil, comparing her to (gasp!) Pink and (OMG!) Alanis Morissette! Basically, he's crying about how Perry's song, I Kissed A Girl, is promoting unhealthy same-sex relationships. Then he wonders who is going to take on the parental duties, while he's at work, and shield his child from the horrors of homosexuality. Hello, retard, why don't you man up and parent your own child? You provide the foundation when (s)he is home with you. Stop trying to pass the buck, you can't expect someone else to do it for you.
Fucking hell, not only do I have to read about his ass-backwards morality (well, I didn't HAVE to, but you know what I mean), I also have to wade through scores of misspelled words and syntax errors. Dude, all those misspellings and typos really lessen the impact of whatever message you're trying to deliver. You obviously have a computer, at least use the fucking spellcheck. I can understand typing all in lowercase, I do it all the time. Spelling, however, is not optional.
Lastly, that Katy Perry song is terrible. The lesbian experimentation shock value makes it mildly amusing, if only to see the right-wing get all hysterical. Man, if my kid came home asking me about that song, I'd get upset just because it's a crappy-ass chart pop song, and I'd find him/her something better to listen to...like Jill Sobule's I Kissed A Girl. Maybe it's a novelty song, but at least it's not overproduced schlock aimed at the lowest common denominator music buyer. The video is cute, too. C'mon, it's Fabio! So, the moral of this story is CHART POP SUCKS. The same goes for people who are unwilling to accept responsibility for raising their own children.
So I cut up another movie and slapped a song over it. I was watching Zodiac recently and Radiohead's Climbing Up The Walls popped into my head, and I felt like it would fit. Both the song and the movie have this slow-burn intensity, a sense of dread and impending doom. This song totally should have been used in the movie somehow. I know it's a period piece, but maybe the song could have been played over the end credits or something. But then again, that's why David Fincher is a famous film director and I am not. S'all good. This is one of my favorite King Crimson tracks. It's completely amusing to me, and I'm sure it amused the band as well, from the lyrics to the music. Like the line, "I'm a dinosaur, somebody is digging my bones", clearly refers to their age and the fact that people still listen to them. Musically, it sounds gigantic, like a dinosaur. The music plods and lumbers about, roars and gnashes its teeth. Fucking awesome. Check this on their 1995 album, Thrak, which features the "double trio". Two guitarists, two bassists, and two drummers. I saw them live that year, pretty astounding stuff.
So, I'm waiting for my copy of the new PUFFY single to arrive. This one is already sounding much better than All Because of You. No Butch Walker, no Avril Lavigne = A GOOD THING. There, I said it. In the meantime, I have this video to hold me over until the CD is in my greedy little paws. The vid isn't great, but what can ya do?
Seriously, I cannot stop listening to this song. I wake up, and it's in my brain and it stays there all day long. It's been like this for a month, I love it. The video is great fun, too, it's 5 minutes of pure pop bliss. Kaela Kimura > Happiness!!!
